Tajweed is the science of reciting the Quran precisely as it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — giving every letter its right, from the correct articulation point to the correct duration and characteristics. Reciting with Tajweed is how the meaning is preserved and the beauty of the recitation comes alive. At Maktab Quran you learn it through live, one-to-one lessons where your teacher listens closely and corrects you in the moment.
Who should take Tajweed classes
Tajweed is for anyone who can already read the Quran but wants to recite it correctly and beautifully. If you make mistakes you cannot hear yourself, rush your elongations, or were never taught the rules formally, this course is for you. It suits older children, teenagers and adults alike.
The rules you will master
- Makharij — the precise articulation points of every letter.
- Sifaat — the characteristics of letters (heavy/light, whispered/voiced).
- Noon saakin & tanween — Izhar, Idgham, Iqlab and Ikhfa.
- Meem saakin — Ikhfa Shafawi, Idgham Shafawi and Izhar Shafawi.
- Madd — the natural and secondary elongations and their exact counts.
- Ghunna, Qalqalah and the rules of laam and raa.
- Stopping (waqf) and starting rules for fluent, correct recitation.
See the rules, don't just hear them
Tajweed is famously hard to grasp from audio alone. Our synchronized classroom makes the rules visible: as your teacher explains a Madd, the elongated letters are highlighted; when a Ghunna is held, you see exactly where. You literally watch the rule on the page while you apply it with your voice — and your teacher corrects the smallest slip instantly, something no recorded course can do.
How lessons work
With 5 live 30-minute classes a week, a typical Tajweed lesson blends theory and application: your teacher introduces a rule, shows you real examples in the Quran, and then has you recite while they correct. Over time you move rule by rule through the whole system, always applying what you learn to actual verses rather than memorizing definitions in the abstract.
Pairs perfectly with
Tajweed works beautifully alongside Hifz — memorizing with correct recitation from day one — and with Tafsir so you understand the verses you are perfecting. Not yet reading fluently? Start with Noorani Qaida first.
